Automated image classification

Biologist’s jobs may soon get a lot easier with automated image classification. According to MIT’s Technology Review machine learning has been able to accurately classify previously unseen image content using a database of pre-existing images and tags. They have used this of publicly available Flickr images.

The process is known as ALIPR (Automatic Linguistic Indexing of Pictures).

Google goes green

According to this post Google has done the noble deed and is setting up the largest corporate solar panel installation in the US!!! About time corporations started taking notice of our shared environmental plight. I think that Google should issue a challenge to the rest of the corporate world as doing this will surely save everybody money and environmental woes.
